After a title-winning campaign in Birmingham, many tennis fans may have expected Alexandra Eala to carry her good form into the Queen’s Club Championships.
Instead, the Filipina’s inspired form deserted her.
Eala struggled throughout her first-round contest in West London, losing 6-2, 6-2 to American youngster Iva Jovic.
What is going wrong for Alex Eala against the top players?
She only won four games against Iva Jovic at Queen's…
The 20-year-old has since travelled east to Berlin, where she will play Queen’s champion Donna Vekic in the first round.
Playing an in-form Vekic represents a difficult task for Eala; who will be seeking to cement her place as a seeded player for Wimbledon.
Will Alex Eala be a seeded player at a Grand Slam for the first time in her career?
The simple answer is: we do not yet know.
Following her first-round defeat in London, Eala is ranked 35th on the WTA Tour.
| Ranking | Player | Points |
| 26 | Anastasia Potapova | 1669 |
| 27 | Marie Bouzkova | 1659 |
| 28 | Madison Keys | 1642 |
| 29 | Ann Li | 1601 |
| 30 | Hailey Baptiste | 1513 |
| 31 | Emma Raducanu | 1458 |
| 32 | Xinyu Wang | 1431 |
| 33 | Donna Vekic | 1431 |
| 34 | Katerina Siniakova | 1422 |
| 35 | Alexandra Eala | 1422 |
As things stand, Eala would be the 33rd highest-ranked player going into Wimbledon.
This is because both Hailey Baptiste and Victoria Mboko – who are both ranked higher than Eala – have withdrawn from Wimbledon due to injury.
The Filipina will therefore need to produce a strong run in Berlin to ensure that she qualifies as a seeded player for Wimbledon.
However, there is good news for the Filipina ahead of the event.
Eala is already projected to rise two places in the WTA rankings ahead of the Berlin Open, making her the 31st-highest ranked player heading into Wimbledon.
If Eala were to qualify as a seeded player for Wimbledon, it would represent the Filipina’s first major event as a seed.

Alex Eala’s 2025 Wimbledon campaign
Eala made her second appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam event at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
Eala was drawn against the defending champion, Barbora Krejcikova, in the first round.
The Filipina came out of the blocks hot, winning the first set 6-3 inside Centre Court.
However, Krejcikova rallied to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-1.

Krejcikova, who battled physical issues during the contest, was quick to recognise Eala’s high level of play during her post-match remarks.
“I would like to start with giving the credits to Alex,” Krejcikova said. “I mean, what the hell she played in the first set.”
“She was smashing the ball and she was cleaning the lines and all that, so, wow.
“Wow, it’s the next generation coming that she’s gonna come up and she’s gonna be really good in a couple of years.”
