Alexandra Eala’s grass-court season was outstanding, and she will be keen to keep her momentum flowing into the North American hard-court swing.
Over the next few months, she will compete across various cities in North America, culminating in just her second-ever appearance in the main draw of the US Open.
Given she has just made history at Wimbledon, making the deepest run at a major that anyone from her country ever has before, there’s no reason why she cannot feel confident of mimicking, or even surpassing that feat in New York.
However, Alexandra Eala is seemingly also keen to supplement that dream with doubles when possible, despite the additional fitness concerns these may bring.
Although, when offered the opportunity to partner Venus Williams, you don’t turn it down.
Venus Williams and Alex Eala confirmed to play doubles at Washington Open
As released on X, the Mubadala DC Open simply wrote: “Dream Team”.
Attached was a photograph of both Eala and Williams, who will join up for another tournament having played together in Bad Homburg just last month.
Is Alex Eala ‘overhyped and overrated’?
Some fans think so…
Having won their opening-round match there in Germany, they fell to the number two seeds in the quarter-finals – a solid effort from two players who had previously never played together.
Eala clearly did enough to capture Williams’ attention though, having been invited back for another run, this time in the American’s home country.
Given all the fanfare surrounding the treatment of doubles at the moment, this partnership is sure to command more interest. So will Nick Kyrgios’ new teammate.

Whilst Venus and Eala will surely light up the women’s draw, Kyrgios will hope to do the same on the men’s side.
After all, fireworks are expected whenever he steps onto the court, so to pair him with Frances Tiafoe should only increase that likelihood.
Ironically, these two have actually only ever faced each other once in singles, in Washington.
The Aussie emerged victorious in a three-set thriller, and actually went on to claim the title.
