The career paths of Andy Murray and Alex de Minaur crossed during contrasting stages of their journeys on the ATP Tour.
Murray was entering into the twilight of his career when they first contested a match in 2019, while de Minaur was beginning to make a name for himself.
The Australian has gone on to breach the ATP top 10, winning 10 ATP Tour titles in the process – most recently at the Washington Open.
Meanwhile, Murray retired in 2024, calling time on an illustrious career that included three Grand Slam titles and two Olympic Gold Medals.
For all his accomplishments in the sport, one might have expected the Brit to have a positive record against Alex de Minaur.
Alex de Minaur’s perfect record against Andy Murray
Remarkably, Andy Murray never managed to defeat Alex de Minaur, despite playing the Australian on six occasions.

The pair first met during de Minaur’s run to the 2019 Zhuhai Open title; de Minaur defeated the Brit in the round of 16, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Murray and the ‘demon’ would meet three years later during the 2022 Laver Cup. Again, de Minaur defeated his British opponent, this time by a scoreline of 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
The pair’s four other meetings occurred in 2023. In Monte-Carlo and at the Queen’s Club Championships, the Australian romped to victory, dropping just four games across both matches.
Their penultimate meeting came at the 2023 China Open. On this occasion, de Minaur won a close contest 6-3, 5-7, 7-6.
Murray and de Minaur’s final meeting was played out at the 2023 Paris Masters. For the final – and sixth – time, de Minaur defeated Murray, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5.

What did de Minaur say about being 6-0 against Murray?
After his last match against Murray, de Minaur was asked to comment on his head-to-head record against Murray during an interview with the Tennis Channel.
“I think every time we’ve played it’s been very different,” de Minaur said.
“Got to give a lot of credit to Andy because he’s always evolving his game plan against me, and you can see with the last couple times we’ve played he’s definitely tried to be very aggressive and kind of play a certain type of way that has been a lot more effective for him than probably in the past.
“Ultimately, I know it’s going to be a battle, and he’s always going to compete no matter what the score is, the match can change any second.
“I would say I’ve probably been fortunate enough to play him only post-surgery where he’s maybe lost a bit of that speed.
“Definitely would have been a nightmare to play him in his prime.”
