Alex de Minaur and Victoria Mboko confirmed to play prestigious British tennis event

Alex de Minaur’s Barcelona Open campaign came to an end earlier than expected.

The Australian, seeded third at the event, began the tournament by defeating Sebastian Ofner 7-6, 6-4.

However, on Wednesday, De Minaur was beaten 3-6, 4-6 by Serbian player Hamad Medjedovic.

As for Victoria Mboko, the Canadian starlet is yet to play a clay-court event this year. However, she is expected to return for the Madrid Open, which begins on April 21.

Following the clay-court swing, both De Minaur and Mboko – along with a number of other tennis stars – will compete in a notable grass-court event.

On Wednesday, the Lawn Tennis Association [LTA] confirmed Alex de Minaur and Victoria Mboko’s participation in the 2026 Queen’s Club Championships.

Lorenzo Musetti, the world number nine, and Belinda Bencic – an Olympic champion – are also set to play the event.

De Minaur and Musetti will join Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Draper in the men’s singles draw.

The Australian, who reached the 2023 final in London, will be hoping to go one better this year.

“London is like a home away from home for me,” De Minaur told the LTA. “So coming back to the HSBC Championships was always a must this season. 

“Reaching the final in 2023 was an amazing experience and one I’ll never forget, but I want to get my hands on the trophy this time around.

“I can’t wait to see the packed-out crowds and get back out on the grass again this summer. The entry list is looking strong so far, but I’m confident I can go all the way.”

Mboko, meanwhile, will be making her debut at the event. She will join the likes of Amanda Anisimova, Emma Raducanu and Jessica Pegula in the women’s singles draw.

I am so excited to be making my HSBC Championships debut this summer!” Mboko also told the LTA. “Having heard such great things about the tournament, it was one of the events I am looking very much forward to compete at.

The last 12 months have been incredible with so many new experiences and this is another one to add to the list. Being able to play at The Queen’s Club in the second year of the new women’s event is going to be very special.

“I’m feeling confident and happy with how the first few months of the year have been going so far. I’m just enjoying every moment I get to go out and compete. This is a chance for me to show what I can do on the grass and I can’t wait to get going.

Alex de Minaur’s 2023 Queen’s Club run

Alex de Minaur began his 2023 Queen’s Club campaign by defeating four-time champion, Andy Murray.

After beating Murray 6-3, 6-1, De Minaur recorded victories against Diego Schwartzman, Adrian Mannarino and second seed Holger Rune.

However, the Australian’s hopes of winning the title ended with defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Alcaraz, who returned to the world number one spot with victory over De Minaur, said: “It means a lot to me. Being able to win this amazing tournament in my first time that I played here for me is fantastic.

“To know that I’m [capable of] a good level on grass, obviously [to be] champion of every tournament feels special.”

Later that summer, Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon title, beating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set final.
