The 26-year-old Argentinian needed one hour 47 minutes to secure a 6-4 6-4 victory against the unseeded Italian and will next face Spaniard Oscar Hernandez, who posted a 3-6 7-6 (7/5) 6-0 victory over Diego Junqueira.

Maximo Gonzalez also moved into the last eight with a 6-3 6-1 triumph over Brian Dabul.

Gonzalez will take on Juan Monaco, who defeated Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-4 2-6 6-2.
