And so another year of grand slam events draws to a close. And what a year its been.

First Novak in Melbourne, then Rafas incredible Paris-Wimbledon double and now the return of Roger in New York.

So what did we learn from Federers 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 destruction of Andy Murray on Monday?

Well, we learned that Britains wait for a male grand slam champion goes on, the last coming from Mr Fred Perry in 1936.

Second, we learned that Roger Federer is back, although in reality he never left. Semis in Oz, finals in Paris and at Wimbledon and his 13th grand slam title in New York seems to us like a pretty tidy year.

It really is only a matter of time until he overtakes Pete Sampras record grand slam haul of 14.

Oh, the third thing we learned is that with Novak, Rafa, Roger and now Andy Murray jostling for the major titles, 2009 should be even better that 2008.

We cant wait.
