Will Rafa miss Spain’s Cup final?

Toni Nadal, the uncle and coach of world No.1 Nadal, has suggested his nephews knee injury may rule him out of the forthcoming Spain versus Argentina Davis Cup final.

Uncle Toni says its touch and go whether the problem he picked up in Paris and that forced him to miss this weeks Tennis Masters Cup will clear up in time for the November 21-23 showdown in South America.

Nadal is suffering from tendinitis in his right knee after retiring midway through his Paris Masters quarter-final against Nikolay Davydenko last month.

“Right now his inclusion in the Davis [Cup] team is difficult because the test did not go well,” Toni Nadal told Marca newspaper on Sunday.

“There are very few options for Rafa to be there as he is feeling pain from what he is trying to do on court.”

A statement on Nadal’s official website
says he will be in Barcelona on Monday for more tests after which he will decide whether to face Argentina.

“The doctor tells me that the body needs to do its work and regenerate,” Nadal said.

Argentina have named David Nalbandian, Juan Martin del Potro, Agustin Calleri and Jose Acasuso for the three-day final to be held at the Islas Malvinas arena in the resort of Mar del Plata.
