Andy Murray US Open 2021

WATCH: Andy Murray shows precision and poise in impressive victory

Andy Murray also served brilliantly to put a disappointing week behind him with his return to the ATP tour.

The former British number one received a tough opening draw at the Moselle Open, taking on sixth seed and world number Ugo Humbert first.

But Andy Murray showed his experience and mettle to recover from a set down against the Frenchman and claim victory, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 14 years since he last played the tournament.

“I had some chance early in the first set but I didn’t take them…he [just played a little bit better when he had his opportunities,” Murray said after the match.

“In the second and third set it was the other way [in my favour], I took [my opportunities].”

Some things never seem to change no matter the trials faced by the Brit, such as this exquisite lob the Andy Murray pulled out early in the match.

The former world number one served a noteworthy 18 aces throughout the match, including on match point, building a strong foundation to secure the win.

Humbert is the highest ranked opponent that Murray has defeated in 2021.

It closed out a somewhat miserable day for French fans, as all four French players competing on Court Centrale lost their battles.

Murray pushed world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas all the way in the opening round of the US Open recently, but followed it up with an unfortunate early exit in a Challenger event in Rennes.

The world number 113 will next face Vasek Pospisil in the second round, a man he has faced five times before.

Murray leads the head-to-head 4-1 but Pospisil claimed the most recent victory at Indian Wells in 2017.
