The American’s run through this US dollars 220,000 red clay event has been less than spectacular, as Williams has dropped three sets in four matches while not facing a top-25 player.

However, she looked very good on Friday, firing three aces as she saved all six break points she faced whilst also braking Zahlavova Strycova four times en route to the easy win.

While her semi-final showing was good, Williams will likely have to be even better on Saturday as she will face second seed Flavia Pennetta in the final.

Pennetta advanced with a 6-3 6-3 victory over fourth seed Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic.

Pennetta, who did lose to Williams in their only title match at Zurich last year, will be looking for her seventh career championship, including her third here.
