On a good day for Spanish players, qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver was another first-round winner as he beat Portugal’s F Gil 6-1 6-4. Gimeno-Traver will play Jurgen Melzer in the second round.
A third Spanish victor was third seed and defending champion Tommy Robredo, seeking his third Swedish Open title, who beat Peter Luczak 6-2 6-3 in their second round match.
Teimuraz Gabashvili beat Bjorn Phau 6-3 6-2.
