Roger Federer reveals one of his favourite players “You welcomed me onto the tour”

Roger Federer remembers back to when he first joined the tennis tour and the players who made him feel welcome

The Brazilian ex-world No.1 Gustavo Kuerten is one of Roger Federer’s favourite players because he gave the young Swiss such a warm welcome when he first joined the ATP Tour. Federer also named Britain’s Tim Henman and Spain’s Carlos Moya, now the coach to Federer’s arch rival Rafa Nadal, as two other players who made him feel welcome when he joined the professional ranks of male tennis players.

Roger Federer was speaking to French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten on a video call when he said, “You were always one of my favourite players and you will always be one of those guys who welcomed me onto the tour. You might not remember because you were nice to everybody. I think it’s so important that when oyu come onto the tour you have guys that oyu get along very well with like Carlos Moya, yourself, Tim Henman and others”
