The top-seeded American recorded a 7-5 7-5 victory over Stepanek to claim a second title in Memphis and 27th of his career.

Stepanek beat Roddick in the semi-finals at San Jose last week en route to the title, but Roddick converted three of his four break chances to secure the win in one hour and 45 minutes.

The two exchanged breaks early in the opening set before Roddick won the first set via break of serve in the 12th and final game.

Stepanek had three different break opportunities in the second set, but Roddick held on each occasion.

And on serve at 6-5, Roddick won the first three points of the game to earn three match points and after Stepanek, 30, staved off the first one chance, the 27-year-old American registered his third break of the match to seal the win over Brisbane champion Stepanek who dropped his first sets of the week in falling to 12-2 for the season.

Roddick improved to 5-1 lifetime against Stepanek.
