Emma Raducanu victory ‘one of the greatest ever achievements’ says Dominic Thiem

Former US Open champion Dominic Thiem believes that Emma Raducanu has recorded one of the greatest ever achievements  after lifting the US Open title.

Dominic Thiem, who also won his maiden Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows 12 months ago, said that Raducanu has broken new ground in New York after coming through qualifying and failing to drop a set.

After starting the year ranked 345 in the world, Raducanu climbed to 23rd spot in the world rankings following her victory at Flushing Meadows and fourth round run at Wimbledon earlier this term.

“For me, it’s one of the greatest achievements ever in women’s sports,” said Thiem.

“It’s an incredible journey if you look at the stats. She didn’t lose one set the whole tournament. She came from qualifying and she didn’t even play one tiebreak.
