Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic won their last Gold group match at the Tennis Masters Cup to take an unbeaten record into the semi-finals of the season finale.

Their 6-1 6-4 defeat of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy has set up a re-run of the French Open final where Nestor and Zimonjic lost to South Americans Pablo Cuevas and Juis Horna.

“It’s revenge – V for Vendetta,” joked Nestor, who despite the result of their last meeting believes he and Serbian Zimonjic enter as favourites.

“Those guys have not played together so much this year,” the Canadian added. “But they’ve beaten some good teams and have really shown that they deserve to be here among the eight best in the world.”

Nestor lifted the Tennis Masters Cup last year with former partner Mark Knowles of the Bahamas, and would love to repeat the feat – not least as he and Zimonjic are still in the running for the year-ending world No.1 doubles pair with Bob and Mike Bryan, who are in the other semi-final.

And they are in mean form. The Wimbledon champions needed just 55 minutes to take down US Open finalists Dlouhy and Paes, whose season is now over.

“We’re gelling well and playing well – we’re eager to go a lot farther here”

“Those guys can play better, they didn’t have a lot to play for today,” said the Canadian after their second quickfire win of the week. “We could tell they were not really into it. We’re gelling well and playing well – we’re eager to go a lot farther here.”

Later, Jonas Bjorkman called time on his career as he and Zimbabwean partner Kevin Ullyett were beaten 6-2 1-6 10-6 by Polish pair Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, who progress to the semis.
