‘I won’t be able to play Roland Garros,’ says US Open champion Naomi Osaka as hamstring injury persists

Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the French Open, claiming that the hamstring injury he carried at the US Open is still bothering her.

Osaka sustained the injury at the Western and Southern Open in the week before the US Open, leading to her pulling out of the final as a precaution.

She played with her hamstring heavily strapped during the US Open, which she won, but she has opted not to take any chances with it on clay.

“First and foremost thank you so much for all the support over the last three weeks,” Naomi Osaka wrote on social media. “I couldn’t have done it without you!

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play the French Open this year.

“My hamstring is still sore so I won’t have enough time to prepare for the clay.

“These two tournaments (Rome and Roland Garros) came too close to each other for me this time.

“I wish the organisers and players all the best. I miss you guys but you’ll see me sooner than later!”
