World No.13 Marion Bartoli is out of Cincinnatis Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open after quitting her first round match on Tuesday.
The Frenchwoman, who reached the final at Wimbledon in 2007, was the top seed at the tier 3 hard court event.
Bartoli was trailing American Jamea Jackson 6-7, 2-2 in their first round match when she pulled out with abdominal pain.
That leaves Russian Nadia Petrova as the favourite for the title in Ohio, and the second seed looked impressive during a 6-3, 6-0 victory over compatriot Galina Voskoboeva.
Another two seeds went through to the second round fifth seed Amelie Mauresmo from France and sixth-seeded Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak.
Mauresmo battled past compatriot St
