Juan Martin Del Potro dispatched Andreas Seppi 6-3 6-4 ahead of Wednesday’s singles clash between Juan Monaco and Simone Bolelli and the doubles.

Also in the Blue Group, Serbia took a 2-0 lead against Russian courtesy of Janko Tipsarevic’s 6-2 6-4 victory over Stanislav Vovk and Viktor Troicki’s 6-2 6-2 win over Evgeny Korolev.

In the Red Group, Sweden continued their good form following their defeat of France to take a 2-0 lead against the United States.

Andreas Vinciguerra saw off Robby Ginepri 7-5 6-4 and Robin Soderling comfortably beat Sam Querrey 6-2 6-2.

Germany won their first rubber against France, Rainer Schuettler downing Gilles Simon 6-4 6-4 ahead of Philipp Kohlschreiber’s clash with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
