A year to remember: Rafa’s rollercoaster year

What a roller coaster year for Rafael Nadal fans. After some wildly inconsistent results (don’t mention Fabio), a drop down the rankings, a self-confessed crisis in confidence and the first season since 2004 without either a major or a Masters 1000 title, you’d be forgiven for thinking there’s not a lot to cheer for the Mallorcan’s army of followers.

But a late-season surge has given Rafa’s fans new hope. A run to the Beijing final, Shanghai semis, Basel final and qualification for the end-of-year ATP Finals helped him jump from 10 to 5 in the men’s world rankings. Is Rafa back?
